We're looking to possibly change our annual labor day weekend trip this year. We will go out of Ely again but are not sure where to proceed from there as of yet.

The last two years we did Basswood via Mudro and before that, two years at Big Moose. Both were great lakes and provided us with good fishing.

What we are looking for is somewhere we can get to around lunchtime after leaving Ely at 630am or so. We are strictly basecampers and being able to catch fish for a few meals is key. We'd like to avoid crowds, but that isn't a deal killer.

Any suggestions would be great!

Enter Little Gabbro and base on Clearwater. Reported good fishing - I don't fish - and enough portage that not too many go.
