Interesting, but not exactly what I thought it was going to be . . .

Essentially turns your phone into a walkie talkie with a 10-mile range that can communicate with other phones with a Beartooth, but . . . that's it apparently.

What no mountains involved?

Impressive range. I can see how that would help those individuals who are hiking and get separated from group/family group. (providing they all carry cell phones, that is)

I, too, immediately thought of the Beartooth Hwy./Mountains. Outstanding panoramic views there.

I'm fairly sure 902Mhz to 928Mhz or 33-centimeter transmissions are line of sight dependant. The 10 mile range may be no better than civilian 2 way radios that boast similar range.

I agree about the range. I think the advantage over other radios is being able to text and use maps. Basically you can utilize the capabilities of a smart phone. Just to talk, I think a radio makes more sense.
