Hey all, so I recently sent in my Emerald Mountain SL3 Tent into Big Agnes due to the seam tape turning into flakes and snowing on me in the tent (Fly and tent and all). They got the tent and said yup it’s trashed and will they will replace it with another tent since mine is no longer being made. This is where the curve ball came (BUT I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND WHY) they asked if I had my original receipt of purchase, if I had that for the tent, added vestibule, and foot print. Then they can apply that to an entire new purchase through them for whatever I want. In my case I tend to loose receipts about as quick as I get them, this was purchased also years ago as well (8 to be precise). So instead they are giving me 50% off any tent they have in stock. Once again not ideal but what an amazing company to stand behind a product and a name and do the right thing. Moral of the story is SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS…. And if you have an issue with a Big Agnes product, call them… they will bend over backwards for you! OHHH forgot to mention reason for the receipt, is they know outlets will sell clearance tents at deep discounted rates so they are not wanting to screw themselves over either which makes total sense, sucked for me in some ways, but makes sense none the less..............*R.I.P Emerald Mountain SL3, we had some great times in the BWCA*

Cheers,

Alika

Certainly can understand the need for a sales receipt. Emerald Mt series has been out of production (too expensive to make at competitive price, the reason I heard), for years. Used versions selling on ebay for 1/2 original cost. A 2 person with both vestibules is in my garage and will be babied for many years!

Regarding saving receipts. . . .
Seems most receipts I get are printed on thermal paper.
By the time they age a bit they are faded to blank.
Guess I need to start making copies.

I just returned a tent yesterday to Nemo because the seam tape was flaking off and several of the hook & loop tabs on those seams also came off. I also had a failure with the Garage for the same tent. I'm not sure what they are going to do yet, but since it is no longer in production I may have a bunch of accessories that I purchased for it that are now worthless - foot print, foot print for the garage, paw print, and wall organizer. I paid way more for these accessories than I did for the tent! I had only used the tent twice and had always stored it in a climate controlled walk-in closet in my house so I'm not sure why the tape failed. I purchased the tent new at REI so I was able to go online and retrieve the receipt. I purchased the Garage from another online retailer who only keeps transaction history for 3 years. Since I hade purchased the garage 39 months ago, I no longer have access to the receipt. If you buy something online, create a user account. Chances are that the retailer will keep "account" records for a very long time. If you check out as a "guest" the retailer may delete the "transaction" records after only a few years. Another good point is to register the product with the manufacturer if at all possible, this is time well spent if an item has a lifetime warranty.

Also I try and call support, sometimes they can go farther back. I had REI go back to 06 and they still had my transaction history. Which helped with the footprint.

My BA Emerald Mountain SL3 is still going strong after 10 years of use. Although I have been using my Copper Spur UL3 for more backpacking trips and the Emerald Mountain for canoe trips only.
