I have the Nemo 12 x 12 Bug Out.
I like it very much but only use it for car camping as it is almost as large and heavy as the 4 person tent that I bring for the boys and I. The specs say 9 x 18 inches but I have never been able to get it stuffed down to that size. I also find that it hangs best for me with 2 pole at the lower corners so that adds weight and bulk. You can string it to trees if there are enough at the correct angles to tie off to but I find that the poles gives me more options.
The bug net tarp that I bring to the BWCA for groups is a 10 x 10 CCS tarp with attached net. Much lighter and less bulky but also a little more pricey.

I also have the Nemo 12 X 12. It works well for me. I use some collapsableSectional aluminum poles I got from Campmor for the tall ends and some shorter poles for the short ends that I got from some old canvas Boy Scout Voyageur tents. I wish it was lighter.
As for stringing it up in the trees, I have done that before too and it works well.

Purchased the Nemo two seasons ago and I love it. It is large like the others have said, but when we have a group of six it is nice to have the space. I can get it packed down quite well given it's size. I guess it's all in what your priorities are. I can say if I were faced with the choice a second time I would purchase it again. In terms of quality it is solid.

I also have the 12X12 Nemo and would agree, its a beast. There is just no really good way to get around all the netting, its a ton of material. Its not cheap bulky netting, there just happens to be a whole bunch of it. I wouldn't bring it on a 2 or 3 person trip but might consider it a community luxury item for 4+ person canoe trips. I use mine for boat based camping trips and it works well, making meals and eating them during the buggy times of the year sure is nice. If I had the money I would get the CCS version as its lighter, but I got my Nemo on sale and was able to use an REI divided so it fit the budget better. I also have the smaller Elite Bugout, I think its a 7X7, its made with a much lighter tarp material, closer to that of a CCS 1.1, its pretty tiny and light but only really good for 2-3 people.

I have the NEMO 12x12 and have used it on 2 BW trips so far. I think it is great. I also use the aluminum extension poles for the ends and this helps when trees and branches are not in the right place. I did not think they still made the Eureka bug tent in the US. It would also be a good choice if you can get your hands on one. JG

Thanks to all who have replied. I think I am leaning towards either Nemo 9x9 or the Eureka 16. I can get the Eureka shipped to me for a bit less than the Nemo 9x9. I am thinking I can hang a hammock in it and it is still plenty of room for me and my dog, plus maybe another tripper or two. The 12x12 may just be too big to be worth it when it is only me and another person.

Try doing a Google search on the Nemo Bugout (or/and Nemo with hammocks). I know I saw a webpage that showed a guy with 4(?) hammocks layered in his Nemo. Don't remember what size his Bugout was but he was using it with his kids.
