Wow. 6 hrs later, 3.5 liters of refreshing, warm water.

Gee I can get the same benefits and cold water from dipping in the middle of the lake. The top layer of water gets UV treated.

And it would be much cheaper.

Perhaps a gag gift for someone you camp with?

Please limit your purchases to three per order...

Hope I'm not breaking any rules by talking about selling products in the wrong forum, but I'm selling these for only $43.98. They are smaller than the above product, but bear in mind that what I'm selling is a 100% recycled product.

*The product you receive may vary in appearance from the photo.

Lol. Seriously- is this a joke? Sounds like a good way to get sick. Removes diesel fuel???

I like the part that says "indirect sunlight may require longer "... How do you know? Haha

I hope someone has a good legal team

Need to read and find out how this works. It uses a catalytic scrim inside the bag for purifying. Yes it's slow, and requires sunlight. More than just a "Nalgene 96 ounce canteen"? Seems to be.
Worth the price? Not to me.
Does it work as advertised? I do not know.

Hooky, I'm interested. Are there any price breaks for quantity, maybe 5 at a time? Does the price include shipping? That looks like a really good product. :)

Typically, those types of price breaks are reserved for my stocking distributors. Are you interested in a part time business opportunity with unlimited income potential? If so, perhaps you could attend my seminar at the Radisson next month. I'll waive the admittance fee if you bring a friend. Act now though, seating is limited and it's filling up fast...

Funny stuff Hooky, love it. On a serious note, if the dang thing works it may be a great ditch kit item.

I went this route.

My Multi Level marketing plan may fail due to the info on the above pictured product in the unique packaging. Even so, I may push on with my plan. You can make millions part time with only a $99.95 startup cost. Remember that you can involve any of your friends and acquaintances so they can make unlimited income potential as well. Possible free trip for qualified marketeers based on volume.

Owww. All that made my head hurt. Lol

Serious question though, if this thing does work, why is it different than just a plastic bottle? Is the bag lined with something? Do you add some chemical to the water? I guess I'm missing something here...

It would certainly be interesting to see some independent testing on this. Mercury and lead are elements. So how does it remove elements? Adsorption? Adsorbing will eventually fail once saturation is reached. How does one know when the product is saturated with any particular pollutant? A lot of questions, but if it performs as advertised it could be quite useful in catastrophic situations.

From their website:

"the science of photocatalytic purification

Inside the SolarBag ® is a nanotechnology coated mesh insert, which is activated by the UV rays of the sun. This initiates five separate photocatalytic reactions in the water, which break down toxins at the molecular level, to disinfect and detoxify the water.

Chemicals are broken down to harmless minerals
Metals are removed from the water and sequestered by the insert
Pathogens are killed and rendered harmless"

Solarbag

The technology involved is actually a very simple one, similar to Photocatalytic Air Purifiers.

You all have heard of a catalytic converter right? Imagine that but using the sun to start the process of cleaning the water.

From their FAQ page# :
5. How does the SolarBag ® remove metals from the water?
The simple answer: Harmful metals such as arsenic, mercury, and chromium will be stuck onto the surface of the mesh insert, thereby removing them from the water.

The technical answer: Transition and heavy metals such as arsenic, mercury, and chromium are vulnerable to photo-reduction in the SolarBag ®. Reduced metals are attracted to the positively charged surface of the catalyst and are removed from the water by adsorbing to the catalyst surface.

I find this filter immensely intriguing. Any filter that makes a claim to clean water of lead, mercury, and pesticides I think shouldn't be scoffed at but investigated.

jcavenagh, check out their FAQ page. Looks like they answer nearly all your questions.

In Africa they are teaching people to treat there water by setting it in the sun in a plastic water bottle works the same as a uv light but needs no batteries. Don't know about the chemicals & heavy metals.
