I need to do the Sawyer external filter conversion for my dysfunctional Katadyn Basecamp. What do I need to buy to accomplish this? Does Sawyer sell a kit or something?

Everything you need you can get from your local hardware store, except for the dirty bag and Sawyer. Best advice would be to take the Sawyer to the store to find out what size hose and fittings to get. If the hose end of the Katadyn is a different size barb then you may want to bring that too. Search the forums, there are a couple conversion threads to guide you.

I did my conversion on a trip last summer, very easy to do. Just turn the water bag inside out to expose the old filter. Use a saw and cut the old filter off close to the base of the bag. You will have some filter material and carbon material. Rinse the bag out and now you are ready to insert the Sawyer inline filter. You just need to buy the proper hose size to fit the bottom of the bag and filter. Worked great.

Better yet buy this to get your filter. It's the full size filter that comes with the regular Sawyer kit.
Simple to hook inline between two bags for a gravity filter at camp plus you can use it in the bottle while traveling during the day.

Sawyer sells a kit that has fittings that screw onto the two ends of the filter. Then you go hang out at the hardware store looking for hoses and fittings that match your bags. You might be able to find the fittings that work with the Sawyer there, too.

It will come with a syringe and instructions. It's really simple. Make sure you use a LOT of force to back flush.
You won't need to back flush before using.
