I'm going to be getting new footwear and I was wondering what everyone else used?

Thanks!

These are my favorites. Keen makes some pretty good sandles also.

One of the most frequently asked questions...what to wear on the feet. If you use the site search to the left you will get lots of old threads on the topic.

Socks are very important and I think a general consensus is good merino wool is the best way to go.

Common issues are stay dry or wet foot and enough support for ankles and strength enough in the sole for walking on the sharp rocks and providing adequate grip to not slip so easily. Wet rocks are often slippery even in the best footwear so always beware. Lots of water shoes allow sand and small rocks to get into the shoes, nasty! or they do not have adequate soles for portaging. Everyone to their own and I know people who have used the toe fitting foot glove types.

I have Chotas with neoprene socks I wear over merino wool for colder water and New Balance Abyss for warmer seasons. I take a pair of Teva's for around camp. The Chotas are warmer, but do not dry out well overnight and can get squishy as water gets in and stays more than in the Abyss which has drain holes in the sole.

I'm going with the synthetic portage boot from Chota this year. Not much experience yet. I'm liking it on walks around the block

The OTB Odhin boots are what I have used for years. They are designed with holes to drain water and to be fully immersible.

Great for wet-footing. OTB sold to New Balance and only make the Abyss now.

A lot of users on this site use them.
