What is the best for to use with a Lean? I know about CCS ropes, but am looking for the same quality at a better price.

I like this stuff. 3mm cord

I don't have a lean but have used it for my tundra tarp.

ya know, nevermind. 8 bucks for 80 ft. of dans stuff, 5 bucks for what I linked. dans stuff is nicer anyway.

Gone to all 3mm cordage myself, CCS is very competitively priced, with BlueWater and PMI.

I also use the 3 MM PMI cord in the bulk rolls at REI. Very nice cord, easy to work with. Worth the price.

You get 80 ft. of cord with the Lean+. Buy another 160 feet. Sixteen bucks for 160 ft. is a good price and you know you've got a quality product.

+1 on the extra rope. Remember-- if using reflective rope -- remember to use a loop of rope on the tie outs to prevent the glass in the reflective rope from wearing through the webbing of the tie out.

If you choose to forgo the CCS rope be sure it is at least a minimal stretch like polyester or spectra. Using paracord that is nylon will stretch and stretch more when it gets wet, or if the humidity goes up. Like a dew settling. CCS rope is made in the USA of polyester, with multiple "tirecord" internal braids to boost the 1/8" cord from a typical 225 t0 450lb test.
In my day job I work in the field of measurement so this is a FYI on size comparing units.
1/8"= 0.125"
3mm = 0.118"

Thanks all. I should have been more clear in my question. I bought a used Lean, so don't have an order going through the CCS site and didn't want to spend the money on shipping for just rope. Didn't mean that the rope was expensive by itself.

No worries shipping is not cheap. Just be sure of what you are getting is my point.

I have 2 CCS Leans and went through the same process. The bottom line is: get the CCS rope. You won't improve on it. Also, buy twice what you think you need and it will save you money in the long run.

On the other hand, if you are like me, you will insist on looking for an alternative until you realize through experience that you should have taken the straightforward route first. So the advice is: do the obvious,

So what your saying it's not the price that bothers you it's the shipping? The cost of shipping is terrible [in most cases]. Knowing Dan's reputation I doubt that he tries to make anything from shipping but he's pretty much stuck charging what he has to. Could you possibly make it to the MidwestMountaineer showing next weekend and buy direct from Dan? He puts on a great show on how to set up his tarps which I always attend [along with a lot of other folks], he gives straight forward answerers to questions. Possibly check around and see if anyone from your area is going to the show and see if they would haul your rope back [great way to meet other members]. Just some suggestions FRED

Before I knew what a great company Dan had I bought some reflective rope on eBay. It was terrible... When wet it bled on everything. What a mess. I stick to Dan's rope and it's worked well for me. Like Fred was saying, there's ways of getting it to you. There's even one guy here driving all over the country delivering boats... Maybe he could connect with you. He's looking for an excuse to visit Dan to get something for himself. :)

Thanks everyone and especially Dan. You're reputation is a big part of the reason I got the Lean. I love having a product from someone who cares more about a person having the right rope than making money. Got the rope today and see it up and I love it! Thanks for making such a great product Dan!
