Hey all,

Do any of you have any BWCA experience with an Alumacraft Voyageur (or Voyager, I forget which) 56 lb. canoe? I just traded my old tank (80 lb+ flat stern aluminum) for one of them. The new canoe is in great shape and is really light! But... have any of you had issues with its somewhat lower/narrower profile when out on the water?

Thanks much and best regards,

Colt

I love alumacraft, but haven't used the Voyageur. Hope it works for ya.

i paddle one and it is a great boat! i find it to be very stable. good carrying capacity. been in some big waves and felt very comfortable. bow paddler is more likely to get slapped with a wave or two but that's only in high seas. i think you will love it!

Congrats on the new canoe!

I don't know the answer to your question, so I guess you'll have to paddle it and let me know. :)

I really like my 17 ft alumacraft. 56 lbs isn't too much to portage. does really good in the wind and waves when loaded. no need to worry about rocks etc.

I own an Alumacraft Voyager and love it. It is solid but not too heavy and can handle some pretty good chop. I'm sure a kevlar would be better, but I can't justify it... at least not yet. :)

Congrats on you purchase, I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Ben, I wouldn't say a kevlar would be better, but different. I have kevlar, royalex and aluminum and each has it's advantages. I've had my aluminum canoe for over 30 years and it still gets used a lot. It's a Michicraft, much heavier than the Alumacraft.
