Scored a CCS Guide pack from Midwest Mountaineering with a coupon offer yesterday. Looked at many different options and I think I made the right choice. Looking forward to breaking it in. That's all. Just excited. My daughter was glad too because she thought it was big enough for her to fit in on portages....I hope she's wrong! :-)

As many on this board will attest, you've made a wise decision.

Best there is, hands down

Your daughter may be correct. The Guide pack holds a lot. With the storage in the top of the pack, it will hold over 6,000 sq. in. Well made, well engineered, comfortable to carry, easy in and out of the canoe.....I sure like mine.

Having just visited the worldwide headquarters of CCS I can safely say: great choice!

Me too! I just got a Hybrid Guide pack as well. Also a 60L barrel bag and three zippered barrel bags for the inside.

I was pleased to purchase American made products from some really fine folks. Bad thing is, I probably won't need another pack for a long time, the way they are made!

But a CCS tarp is next!

Like my CCS 3 lean a lot.....use it mostly as a tarp rather than a tent. I discovered you can never bring enough lengths of line. Bad thing is when checking out a potential campsite is if trees are planted in the correct spot to set up our tarp. I have purchased those 3 and 4 section poles and bring a couple of them along in case a tree is missing.
Dan has a nice display at 'copia along with the discount.

When I bought a pack from Dan a few years ago at the Midwest Mountaineering expo, he looked at my then 4 year old daughter and assured us the pack was strong enough to hold her. Of course we had to test it out when we got home.

Excellent choice. I have the slightly smaller Pioneer pack. Very good pack that has many features most canoe packs do not - and made very well. I also have two CCS tarps and a stuff sack. All excellent.

My daughter is 11 and I think she'll still fit in that sucker! I looked at the Pioneer pack as well and with all of the compression straps, the Guide seemed like a good choice.
