at 68 and a knee replacement i decided to drift away from my old idea of "what can happen".
i have never had a problem and don't expect i would ever have one as i'm a very cautious old school canoe tripper.
having said that who knows what the wilderness could bring on or what hidden health problem could come up.
when things dry out a bit here in Mpls i plan on setting up a model camp and making a Youtube to show the search and rescue people what to look for in the way of a guy and his gear.
it's just a level trail thru the woods.

I just got back from two weeks in NW Ontario with the Wabakimi Project. One of my partners carried a Spot PLB and others have continued to do so since I left. It is very interesting to be able to keep up with exactly where the group is. Our leader, Uncle Phil is so impressed he is thinking of getting a unit to be carried routinely by each group while in the bush.

Didn't know or forgot that I am supposed to update my itinerary at the NOAA website. I just got mine for Christmas, so I'm a newbie. Never used or played with it, but I did register it.
What happens if you don't or forget to notify NOAA?

a SPOT is not a PLB.

Still it is a good idea to put next trip info in the comments section. Cold help with a search if it comes to that (hope you never need to use it).

I have a SPOT.. For the Help function I have to make sure I have the appropriate phone contact entered. This is sometimes at PITA to remember to keep updated. It does no good to put the phone number for an Ontario outfitter in when my trip is in Florida :(
All you have to do with the PLB ( I have a Fast Find) is keep your contacts updated and your personal info. Its a single purpose tool; to quickly get you the nearest help wherever in the world you are.
SPOT is more of a communicator.. I am dying, I am OK or I need help as I am stuck.
