I wasn't planning on taking Jaxson my Brittany with me on this trip but my better half just informed me that I would be bringing him.

So I'm in a pinch/hurry to get a budget PFD for him. Any suggestions? Hes roughly 35lbs. So many different options out there and when it comes to animals, who knows what kind of quality you're going to get.

His back right hip is damaged from a car accident. He can swim but he barely keeps his nose above water level. I'm not taking any chances and need a good one. Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Check out Sierra Trading Post. They usually have some. REI has two. Campmor has 3.

NRS CFD (Canine Flotation Device) is a decent one that rings up around thirty bucks as I recall. Ruffwear Float Coat and Astral Bird Dog are over twice as much but are really nice. Any of those three will serve you well.

I have a Great Pyrenees and a Border Collie mix. The only PFD we've ever used is a Kyjen Outward Hound life jacket. I wanted one with handles so we can lift them out of the water if we need to. So far they seem sturdy, and they're designed with a flotation pad thing under their chins to keep their heads out of the water. Before we started using these our Pyr was scared to leave the shore, and our collie didn't want to go past where he could touch. Both seem a lot more comfortable swimming in them and still wont go deeper than they can touch without them on. I don't know if they're the best, but they've worked wonderfully for us, and they were relatively inexpensive, even for our Pyr's extra large one.

I found them very valuable when our Pyr jumped out of the canoe while we were training her on a tiny local lake. If the handles are sturdy enough to lift a soaking wet giant breed, they're sturdy enough for my needs.

I found them on Amazon for 20 dollars or so.

I ended up getting the NRS CFD. I didn't have a lot of time to decide because we leave in a week. Looks like its still going to be getting here too close for comfort (Wednesday). Thanks for the help all.

We sell the NRS vest at the paddle shop/ livery I work for in the summers. They appear well made and the folks who have purchased them have been happy.
