this is of course the second bag in my two bag-three portage
solo tripping system..
this is a general lay out--there is not as much food as the
real pack would have but i set out some left overs to give you
a general idea..in the lower left is my camp chair--it gos in
first to pad by back..the chow gos in three bags, one for each meal.
those long sleeping bag plastic bags worked great but i can't
find them in MPLS anywhere,anymore..on the right are the dinners.
meals in bags..my home made stew--Garg--biscuit mix for bannock.
tea bags--oil..things like cookies and nuts also would be in
there---at the bottom--breakfast--dry egg mix with the dry onion
and tomato with rice to fill it out..and waffle mix for pancakes.
i like the taste of the waffle mix--sort of sweet..tubes of jam
and sugar for the coffee which is pre-ground and packed in
plastic bags..on the left the lunch which is crackers..i take
them out of the packs and put them in a Tupperware box with
layers of paper towel between to cut down on the breakage..
tubes of jam, peanut butter--hunks of cheese and meat stick
along with some sort of power bar or candy round out the lunch.
the plastic bottle is for tang or gator-aid..the lunch meat
and cheese is carryed in the blue, soft side, cooler along with
small jars of margarine for the rice pack dinners or pancakes.
there is a plastic bottle in there somewhere for the rum--
i split up everthing as much as possible so a gallon zip lock
bag might have two quart bags with nuts or biscuit mix.the
idea is that if one bag spills or gets wet the other should
be ok..years ago i put all the flour and rice type items in
plastic jars but that was too bulky so now it all go's in
zip locks--AND all the gallon zip locks go into a O.P. SAK
which is the odor proof version of the Aloksak..sure it's a
pile of interwraped plastic bags and can sometimes be a hassle
to dig thru but they are all marked in big letters with a felt
pen to make finding things easy--halfway thru the trip i'll
dump the bag and re-pack sorting things that may have got
mislayed--like both peanut oil bottles in the breakfast
bag or all the tea bag in with the dinners..

this next photo is a close up the cook kit and other odds
and ends that go in the food bag as shelter-cooking--type
items..top left the shelter with the gray bag of pegs.
the green sack is the throw bag with i keep loose, under
the bag flap where i can grab it..the blue bag is the
"bear rope"..far to the right two MSR bottles of Coleman
fuel with a bit of old blue sleeping pad wrapped around
to keep them from denting--and a "back up" small bottle
of fuel--below them and hard to see are two Lexan cups..
one with a spoon and fork and next to that a cup and
coffee filter..below that the frying pan..the pancake
flipper is in there somewhere--to the left a black leather
bag with my Borde stove and next to that the main stove,
a Coleman Peak Feather and itls cook kit/carrying case..
a pie tin--mixing bowl-and the small pot from a Svea 123
stove round that group off..a apron--saw--and heavy Space
blanket for the shelter ground cloth and thats about it..
--oh yes--the shelter is the last thing to go in and it sits on top of the sealed bag liner so i can get it up without the bag sitting open---i have one more post of my gear..the Boat Bag with all the fun stuff in it...

Nice pics: What is a borde stove?

Thanks. Seeing all that familiar stuff has got me excited about summer. :)

I have the same saw and I used to use a peak one. It was my first stove in the 80's.

I'm wondering how you do your coffee? The lexan press makes it real easy.

Here's my cooking stuff strewn around on last years trip.

TomT--great photos..i like to see what the other trippers bring
along in the way of gear--looks like you had a wet AM--

Whiteh2o--i should have got the Borde out of the bag so you
could see it..
it's a Swiss mountain climbers stove from the 50's..the fuel
go's in the pipe section and the coil and star shaped plate
is the burner..i collect old camp gear and i take this as a
second stove to boil water while i'm using my Peak Feather to
scramble eggs or make biscuits..

Thanks WCD, love the pics of the classic gear, I wonder if any of our canister stoves will be around in 50 years? Probably not; the Gaz might make it??
