Ok I am planning on buying a new solo canoe. Currently when I do go solo I use a Dagger Legend, it is a 15 ft royalex canoe. I love it but it is really a tandem canoe. I go a lot of places including canoe country. I also run a lot of rivers up to class II so I am stuck on royalex and I don't want to buy two solo canoes. I am curious on suggestions for an overall good solo canoe that I can use in canoe country and on rivers. I realize I could buy a Kevlar solo for canoe country and keep my dagger for rivers, but I also have 2 other tandems and I know this will hurt the ears of many of the members but 3 total canoes at one time is my limit. Any suggestions?????

Put another notch in your belt or rack on the garage wall. You really can't have too many.
I recently posted a Craig's list connection with a local solo in roylex on the for sale thread. No idea about the boat, but photos looked good and seemed a good price.

Kinda hard to help when we don't know how tall you are, what you weigh, whether you sit or kneel, use a straight blade, bent or double blade paddle.

RX is becoming unavailable this spring, so folks seem to be buying up new and used RX right now; prices are rising.

6ft 200 I switch from seating to kneeling, I don't currently use flotation or restraints. I use a straight paddle, what kind and material depends on trip. Trust me I would love another " notch" but three is max....we all make comprises lol

Ok, a medium sized guy who kneels and sits and wants RX.

You'll probably want to start with a general purpose solo tripper, with differential rocker as your first dedicated solo. RX is the kicker, there are few options and they are going to go away this summer.

There are several WeNoNah models available, Wilderness is the obvious initial choice, it can be had with a convertible seat, but has minimal, symmetrical rocker. Argosy has the same seat option, is a little narrower and has enough bow rocker to turn nicely.

Mad River's Freedom Solo may still be available in your area, and used Bell YellowStone Solos must come up every now and again.

Solo boats are often a journey. As skills and confidence improve we always seem to need something a little different; faster or turnier or more stable or lighter.

Ted Bell has a new, un-named, I/m guessing Merlin III, a Carl Yost designed 15.5 ft X 30" solo tripper, and his dad just finished the 15 ft X 30" Keewaydin 15 for Swift a year ago, and Wenonah has the hulls mentioned above in composite, which yields lighter boats with better on-water performance. Yeah, you need to miss more rocks.

You'll want a bent paddle for the sitting part, it optimized blade physics for sitting bio-mechanics.

I have a royalex wenonah Argosy. It is really meant for easy rivers but I have used mine in the BWCA. I'm a heavier guy and it works fine. If I had my druthers, I'd use something like a Prism in the BWCA, but since I own the Argosy, and am too cheap to rent a Prism, I make do with the Argosy. :)

i use my 47lb Royalex Wenonah Wilderness here on the rocky streams and rivers of Arkansas, and will take it to the BWCA as soon as I get a chance.

You're six feet and two bills? Sounds like your Legend IS a solo canoe, and a mighty fine one at that. What exactly are you looking for that it doesn't give you? Just less weight perhaps?
