Hey, going to BWCA in September for the first time. Any ideas for foot wear? Boots waders? or same stuff as July?

September can have wild swings in temp, so it's hard to tell. I've been successful using Keens with thick wool socks in mid Sept, but YMMV.

I don't use mukluks in September because the water is still warm. I would bring my usual kayak shoes (Crocs) plus heavy duty sandals for camp that can be worn with warm socks (Teva Omnium---don't get them wet because they take two days to dry). I don't worry about cold feet in the kayak in September because the days usually warm up quickly. But if you're concerned you could bring neoprene booties.

+1 on "your mileage may vary"...

But I was in at Poplar Lake about a week or so after the ice went out in May. I started out in my customary rubber boots with wool socks but switched out after the first day to thick wool socks with a lighter weight wool sock as a liner and hiking shoes. My feet were fine in the wool socks and shoes both in the icy water and in the canoe as the air temps were well above freezing. I plan on using the same wool sock/hiking shoe system in Oct if the daytime temps are forecasted to be above 40 degrees.

That time of year I depend solely my Cabela's Outfitter Series 9" leather boot with 200g of Thinsulate. I can slog through mud, stand in water briefly while loading/unloading, walk through wet grass, and my feet stay warm comfortable and dry...and I can depend on good ankle support.
