Curse you making me want to spend more money on a 4th or 5th cooking kit! I chose an Optimus liquid fuel system, have a Venom Super Stove, hexamine tablets, and I guess I could always cook over a small enough fire.
I did actually look at this stove while making my initial buying decision on the Optimus. I didn't want to take the gamble though. Glad to hear that it works great and may end up buying a few for the siblings who enjoy camping as Christmas-y stocking stuffer-y type things.

And curse you for that brilliant Xmas idea. Dangit. I'm in.

Wow, what a deal and hundreds of 5 star reviews. If I didn't already have a spare Brunton that folds down to nothing, I would be all over this.

These are a great deal. I bought one of these for my brother-in-law and it has seen some use already on a couple backpacking trips. It has performed as well as stoves in the $30-50 range. Long-term durability may still be questionable, but only time will tell if it's an issue.

Thanks for the link DrBob, I was thinking about trying a canister stove just the other day, at this price it's an easy decision. Every time I order something from China I think the same thing, how the hell can they sell that this cheap and include free shipping.

I purchased one today also. Not that I needed it. I have 2 MSR Dragonfly's that have never even been taken out of the box. I purchased one about 15 years ago and thought it was stolen because I couldn't find it for 14 years; purchased a replacement 3 years ago and still haven't used it. I was cleaning out a closet last fall and I found the first one. I figure that I can pass them down to my two boys some time along with the two Taj 3's that have never been used. I need to stop collecting camping gear!

Oh man! I have to stop reading these posts! I have a dragonfly that I love but me who is always looking to get smaller, lighter gear wants one of these now. I think I have an addiction! :)

Ok I snagged one. The piezo was intermittent on my other inexpensive stove. Who doesn't bring a lighter anyway. I hope it arrives in the next 8 days so I can bring it along on my trip. Helluva buy if I can get a couple years out of it. Thanks for the tip.

Mine is a little wonky, needs to be bent so that it arcs to the screen part of the burner vs the outer rim.

I have 1 of 3 that is the same, I just push over on the piezo when trying to light it for now. I'm sure I'll figure out something better later on.

Seems to be a relatively common problem. Yep, mine arc's to the outer rim, but with just a little thumb pressure it is over far enough to ignite the gas.

Yep, it's a chinese knockoff that I don't expect to last too long. Got em for evaluation purposes myself. If I like em enough for my hiking/kayaking/camping/etc, then I'll get one of the quality brand names. If I decide I don't like em or that a piece of gear that I already have does the same job well enough, then I'm only out a couple bucks.

Kind of funny, really. A Chinese knockoff of a stove made in Korea. :o[

Great deal on the stove until you try to buy a fuel canister for it. The Coleman butane/propane canister is $9.28 on Amazon. Are you guys finding it cheaper other places???

Dick's Sporting Goods has a 230g canister for $6 near me. Jetboil Jetpower is the labelling on the can. Coleman is not always the cheapest, and these are not propane stoves. They run on isobutane, do not use them with propane.

quote Sobi: "Why shouldn't you use propane? Graned you need that converting device to make them fit, but are you saying the propane won't burn correctly in these?"
It might burn ok, but they're not designed with that in mind as far as I know. If you can get it to fit and it works, go for it I guess. Like they say "if it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid."

Ok, thanks. I bought a little butane stove for 8 bucks, same story as the one that started this thread. Cheap, shipped from China, and amazing workmnship. It's wider than the little cousin and has a larger heating ring. I use th old coleman stove all the time but it doesn't simmer down enough. This one does. With butane 10 times moe expensive I might just buy the coverting device. Here's the stove and then th device. 8 buck burner adaptor

I finally got around to picking up some fuel for this stove. I found the canisters at walmart for about $3 and some change.
I did a quick boil test with it. I used a Revere copper bottom 1qt pan about half full of water. Reached full boil in 4 mins and 10 seconds. I also did a noise test and with the microphone about 9 inches away from the stove it was registering just under 80 decibels although it didn't seem that loud a couple of feet away. I like it so far. I'm going to bringing it along on some car camping trips in the coming months and see how it holds up.

It does work off of the propane 1lb tanks too for those that want to give that a whirl. The Kovea converter is really slick. Makes for a great propane cap too once you disconect from the stove.

For those of us who own too much camping gear already, these stoves could still provide some inexpensive gift opportunities.

I must be doing something wrong. I tested the stove twice and it worked. A few weeks later I tired to use it and it won't light. No gas coming out. I can hear the fuel, and I doubt 2 minutes of use would drain the tank. Good thing I wasn't camping.

connection between stove and can?
One time I got no gas out of it and I had to tighten it a bit...gasket is a bit on the thick side.
If you investigate further let us know.
btw...when coleman stopped making fuel bottles for the exponent stoves I purchased one of those fuel adapters for the more common type to cans. Tried it and I could not get any gas to the stove. Finally Coleman sent me another. I figured I had nothing to lose so I took the bad one apart and found that the check valve was machined wrong. glad I didn't try that out in the woods for the first time.

Received my stoves in the mail this week....went to Meijer and bought the fuel canisters ($4) and tried it out....worked great. I don't think they will totally replace my dragonfly, but nice to have as a backup...and one will be a stocking stuffer.

gaz cart and orange box stove in PFD pocket.
that little stove could be a life saver if you went ashore without your gear after a dumping of some sort.no fooling around with fire gels or sparking sticks.just screw the burner on and you have fire.
for the canoe trip all that is covered in bubble wrap and tape.the 3 oz tank fits in a 123 Svea stoves cover/cup and along with the pot holder and spoon you have a way to make a hot pot of mush/tea.
more can fit in like a zip lock of oatmeal and brown sugar.
the other pocket has the foil bag with a head net, foil blanket for a WP covering, ration blocks and some odds and ends all wrapped when in real use.
the point is that little stove should be in every PFD.even if you end up in a swampy bay with the canoe drifting away in the wind you have a fire, same if the swim brings you to one of those one tree islands.
also if you need to move your first landing site to a better spot yiu just turn off the stove and walk on without the drama of carrying a blazing branch.

Dr Bob..it's sort of seen fitting right into the 123 stove pot,the green thing.a 3oz gaz cart by luck fit right in.there are a few companys that make that small cart.the one i us use Primus but Jet Boil has one too. what i did was buy a PFD with the largest pockets i could find.before i was trying to fit/stuff my ditch kit in PFD with smaller pockets and had to leave out the stove and just have fire gel and matches.

I can also confirm that the Jet Boil (3.53 oz/100 gram) canister also fits into a SVEA 123 cup/lid. The Jet Boil canister also has a removable plastic cap over the threaded attachment, helping to reduce damage/debris collecting there.

Used mine up near Finland, MN over the 20-23rd of Sept. It got kinda cold on us and the stove didn't work all the great unless I slipped it under some clothes to warm up the gas canister. So, once you can start seeing your breath you'll wanna keep the canister warm unless you're using a pure propane fuel.

I just read the first few comments on this thread, I bought the 6 dollar stove a few years ago. I spike hunt in many different states every year. A must is a butane/propane mix. I use Coleman canisters. I have experienced flawless use in many different environments. Earlier this month I was elk hunting in Colorado and neverexperianced rain like I did that week, most of my gear failed or was ruined but my 6 dollar stove came thru like a champ, had bitter cold temps in Alaska last year on a moose hunt and again still using same stove, the pizzo ignition has never worked so it has to be started by a butane lighter. I carried to of them expecting a failure but haven't had one yet. Apologize as I haven't read whole thread but thought I would share my experience with stove
