I have been using pop can stoves now for the last four years and every year I have evolved them just a little. Well this year I ended up with quite a change. I now have a stand that is only 36 grams and securely holds the stove. I have reduced the height from 6" to just less than 2" now. The stand will securely hold a 9" pan with 15 lbs. of weight in it. The stove itself had some minor changes made to it. I went to much smaller jets and from 8-12 to 32 jets. I get a nice range style flame with this unit and about 15 min burn time on 1.5 ounces of fuel. I also did away with the jb weld and went to a pure pressure fit. I am curious what you think?

Very nice! Is the stand a DIY as well, or did you find it somewhere?

Now just add a wick and you're all set!

Instead of a wick I use a piece of tin foil below the stand. I find I can control my fuel usage for primer that way. It works pretty slick and I also found that with the flame below the can you can shorten the time it take to light the stove.

DIY all the way. I am lucky enough to have access to Solidworks so I modeled the stand in 3d and then had it cut on a laser. After a lot of messing around and playing with different shapes and heights this is what I came up with.

WOW! That stand is really something! You could make some pin money selling those in various sizes, say for a stove that is 2 3/32" from ground to top...

You will probably be the next entrepreneur who we see at Canoecopia selling their slick invention. Great idea!

+1 I hope PN can find a way get some made. He won't retire a mllionaire, but this item would find a market among paddlers, cyclists, and hikers. Good design well executed.

The stand looks a lot like the esbit titanium stand which I use for esbits or as a base for a trangia, but I like that it seems to have a larger diameter when open. Good work!

Would it fit a Trangia stove? If it does, I may be interested.

Can you post the diameter of the Trangia and the total height? I have looked and I cannot find either on the net.

Nice work on the stove, looks like it would be great as a primary or backup. What kind of boil times do you get with it?

Trangia = 2.85" x 1.75". The Trangia will most likely extend above the pot support arms, as it does with my little Esbit stand. If I use my Trangia in conjunction with the ti stand I have to also use the windscreen as the base/support under the pot/pan.

Boil Time: Small bubbles:3 min Complete boil: 5 min
2 Cups of water
1 oz. Denatured Alcohol (.25 teaspoon primer included in the 1 oz.)
Burn time: 12 minutes flat

I will complete the same test with 4 cups of water and an 8" pan. I will also post a link to a youtube video for those of you who want to see.

you should create a video demonstrating how it all works.....
....very cool

Steel version is 36 gr. per some discussion N1 and I have had.
If, and I'm not saying N1 can do it, but IF a Ti version is possible then one would expect that to come in even lighter.
I just like this design because it solves an issue I have had with larger groups and cooking with alcohol.

As requested. I have two videos posted

1.) Demonstrates the setup and lighting
http://youtu.be/qa0G1wDb5Ic

2.) Demonstrates cooking 4 cups of elbow noodles in four cups of water with once ounce of denatured alcohol.

I am looking at a design that Trangia stove would be compatible with and also a design that is slightly taller. I will keep you posted.

It is official I am going to try and get funding to further develop this project and manufacture them. Check it out over at
Kickstarter

I hope you don't mind I used some of your comments to help promote this project. If anyone has a problem with me using them let me know and I will remove them from the site.

For anyone interested I can keep you informed.

I think you did a great job. Very nicely done.

Hey! I've been quoted!! :)
I am watching the development. Take a look at hammockforums.net and whiteblaze.net for more feedback. I think hf will be more positive, but wb may give you some critical feedback as well.
Good luck!
