Just curious if anyone examined CCS's latest offering. I bought a 30 liter barrel pack from Dan last year and want to get a new harness/pack for my 60 liter barrel. And I'm curious, what would you keep in the pockets that wouldn't defeat or undermine the purpose of a barrel, to eliminate/minimize food odor?

I was wondering the same thing! I also came up with the idea of putting my water filter in a side pocket for easy access.

I put fuel bottles in mine, if they spill or leak from a cracked oring, it is outside of the pack... (don't ask how i know they will crack)

I'm assuming we're talking about the barrel harness pictured below? I purchased the small, which is designed for the 30L barrel, last weekend at "Canoecopia".

Due to the fact this new design is less than a month old, there obviously hasn't been time for anyone to "field test" it. I've researched barrel harnesses from several manufacturers, but I personally think the new CCS barrel harness is the best one available IMHO, for a number of reasons.

I love the addition of the pockets for nalgene water bottles. The biggest problem I've had with the other packs I use, is that I have no place to properly carry my nalgene bottles. That is, unless I jam them in the the top of my existing packs, pictured below.

I look forward to using the CCS harness this year and beyond.

I had Dan custom make me a pack last year with three external pockets very similar to the one he now offers. It has been on several local trips and works great for fuel bottles, perhaps I was the first to field test the design?

I just realized I wasnt signed in, Here is a picture I posted back in August of last year. There are differences in the pocket design, but functionality is basically the same. This pack is so much more comfortable than the harness I was using before. I will be purchasing one of the new ones for my second barrel. The top pouch will be a great place to keep skillets and the utensil roll and possibly the whisperlite stove, so that it is handy for hot lunches on the go, or at least in the same spot every time. I might have some 30 liter barrels and harnesses for sale... Lol

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Since I don't normally take a stove, I never thought about a designated pocket for fuel bottles, but that makes total sense, especially if they leak for some reason. While the pack looks cool, I'll probably opt for the more basic style he introduced last year.
