Let me say first off; we didn’t get paid by the manufacturer to produce this video, it’s just a simple gear review. We produce these reviews merely to show our camping and paddling friends what’s out there on the market.
I can tolerate bugs pretty well when we’re out in the bush but Merri has always had a problem with them, up till now. She’s been using this bug shirt for the past year and it’s made a huge difference. She is so impressed with it that she wanted to produce this short video showing close-ups of its features.

Nice video! I am with Merri... I can handle most things but the black flies (gnats) make me bonkers.

I really like the integrated hood. My bug net is of the head variety and always ends up twisting and shifting on my hat and does not protect my arms. This looks like a nice, albeit more expensive, alternative.

Thanks for that video. I'm considering a purchase of this type. The big welts the black flies leave on my face are still on my mind.

The video is incomplete as it reviews only the nylon version. When you go to the site, note that the jacket is also made in a cotton version which is far more useful when the temperature soars.
I use my cotton in the Everglades and mid summer in the Arctic and the boreal forest. The humidity in the former makes the nylon version intolerable and the heat of the second and third areas makes the nylon intolerable.

But I do have the nylon version too. We are going to Labrador and Newfoundland where the blackflies exist all summer. The temps rarely clear 60. I will use the nylon ( and I have had the jacket for fifteen years..there is no mention on the video of its durability)

my East Coast buddy gave us those for a wedding gift! they were great for those few times when the bugs were really bad but otherwise sort of closed in and stuffy.if i was going to the "bad bug" country in the north of Canada i could see them as something to have on all the time,BW/Q not so much.

I lean towards a light weight long sleeved shirt. When bugs get bad, I use a headnet. I've actually been on a number of trips when I used no bug spray, or almost none (June and August trips).

Thanks for the video review.

Injuns didn't have 'em, so they ain't necessary. What's next, a portable a/c unit for your vestibule? God put bugs here to keep the faint of heart out of the backcountry so the rest of us could find a good camping spot.

I wasn't ripping them. I call it as I see it. I did not say the video was bad..just incomplete. Merry Christmas to you too.

Yellowcanoe,
How would these people know about durability, of this product, as they have just started using it,- they state this in their posting;one year.

Some of us are not fortunate to have money to buy all versions of a product, so we make the best decision we can at the time for our needs.

Sourisman, In my experience bugs seem to be more attracted to female.

In My Humble Opinion;

Mark and Merri only claim to review one model shirt. This is no different to reviewing one model tent. We don't expect the reviewer to review the companies entire lineup in a HOME video.

I admire Mark and Merri for making this video and sharing their knowledge. Thanks you two for your time and effort.Make some more and share them with us.
We can all learn something every day.

I use the brand Bug Skinz. It's a top, bottom and headnet. I bought mine through Cabelas but I think they are sold elsewhere too.

For me they also function as a base layer.

I have one of the Bug Shirts. I like it. It is of course excellent when the bugs are bad at dusk. You can unzip the hood and wear it as a layer in camp. I've never needed it on the water. I have a good headnet too (Outdoor Research) but the bugshirt protects the entire upper body. The bug shirt is relatively hot so I would go head net in summer.

Thats why I added the info. Should I refrain next time? You all see the information as a criticism which it is not.

Enjoyed the video. Also liked the additional info provided by yellowcanoe. I didn't see anything other than some one providing more info as so often happens here. Guess it depends on who you are. Remember, tis the season to be jolly.
