I have had a #8 for about three years. It holds an edge great and the lock still works just like it did the day I got it. I won't be splitting wood with it but its light and sharp. I really like mine.

like it has been said, too light weight and for me the wrong shape to carry anyplace but in a day bag.i did have a fellow at the classic stove site tell me they kept the best ones for themselves,France, and exported another style.
it's just a level trail thru the woods.

There seems to be an entire cult of Opinel modifiers. Just thought those that use Opinels would enjoy seeing this:

I have one, it is the only knife that I keep in my pocket. It is great for slicing meat, cheese, and for getting peanut butter out of a jar which are probably the top three uses of a knife while on a canoe trip. I suppose cutting 550 paracord would also rank up there as well as whittling- Opinel knives would cut rope and carve too.
