I like them. I just don't know how they would hold up to heavy use.

I have had a #8 for about three years. It holds an edge great and the lock still works just like it did the day I got it. I won't be splitting wood with it but its light and sharp. I really like mine.

I have one but it usually takes a back seat to the mora knife.

Use one as a light duty bird/trout knife. I like it for being light and sharp. Would not use it as only knife on a trip though.

like it has been said, too light weight and for me the wrong shape to carry anyplace but in a day bag.i did have a fellow at the classic stove site tell me they kept the best ones for themselves,France, and exported another style.

Good steel, stay sharp but they are not for heavy duty use. Great cook kit knife.

There seems to be an entire cult of Opinel modifiers. Just thought those that use Opinels would enjoy seeing this:

This site is in French, but clicking the names will bring up the work of each artist.

I have one, it is the only knife that I keep in my pocket. It is great for slicing meat, cheese, and for getting peanut butter out of a jar which are probably the top three uses of a knife while on a canoe trip. I suppose cutting 550 paracord would also rank up there as well as whittling- Opinel knives would cut rope and carve too.

I have found the steel to be thin and soft requiring attention often.
(I bring an axe or hatchet for cutting wood)
