Was in wallyworld (hate the place but no choice round here)anyways I saw a gallon can of rhino bed liner type stuff. And wondered if it might make good end protector material. Anyone tried it before?

If you think of the skidplates as sacificial surfaces, I don't know why the rhino liner wouldn't work. I would roll on a number of light coats after taping off the area you wish to protect. Make sure you take it back under the bottom 12 inches or so.

I myself have a rolled on black epoxy skidplate on my solo canoe and after 10 years or so I attached a small kevlar skidplate right at the bottom of the stem where it transitions to the bottom of the canoe.

Yeh, that's an interesting concept

Well the new canoe I'm building is ballistic nylon covered. Like a cedar strip canvas in aways... And with fiberglass. I'd just redo the bow bottom side every couple of years. After banging against rocks dragging on shore what not. But the canvas will not be as easily repaired. So I was thinking of doing a some type of buffer pad.

And well I saw that can and thought hell. Bet that would work. Think I'll buy a can once I get her covered and slather some on ;]

I've thought of that myself. Seems like it would work well, although I'm not sure about weight. Might be lighter than kevlar. Please post some pictures and let us know the results.

Will do, I'm about 70% done with this new build and already planning the next two. So I'm definately gonna try it. We beat the living crud out of our canoes down here in the small creeks. So it'll be put to the test too.
