I would like to use D-rings as tie down attachment points on the inside of my Royalex solo canoe for floats, packs, etc. I like them because I can use quick release straps instead of bungee cords to hold stuff in. Where can I get them from? And I think they need a backing of some sort in order to be glued to the canoe. Does it matter what glue I use? What glue do you recommend?

I think that the optimal adhesive depends on the material to which the D-ring is attached. I note that Northwest River Supply sells D-rings that are attached to patches made of neoprene, urethane, and PVC. You need an adhesive that will bond to both the Roylex hull and the D-ring patch. I think that NRS recommends PVC patch D-rings for use in ABS (Royalex)hulls. I would contact them for a recommendation since they sell both the D-rings and adhesives.

use vynabond or epoxy to glue your patches.

I purchased the nylon loop style from Rutagaga years ago, used the vynabond that Mr. Green suggest and they have been great.

I am currently making my own. I got hold of some old polevault mats that are a heavy pvc like rubber. I sewed rings on them using some old strap I have. I have not tried them yet.

Actually, I made a set of thigh straps for a c1 conversion I am doing. For the poly kayak, I am going to use contact cement as that was what was recommended.

The posted NRS adhesive is what I plan to use when outfitting royalex boats. I am making tie-downs for lashing in airbags and gear in my Dagger Reflection for when the wife and I paddle some of the class 2/3 rivers here.
