Anyone have any experience with rods and reels with the brand name of Lew's?

Buddy of mine has some of the old speed spools...swears by 'em. I saw recently that some bass pros (Peter t) are out hawking the new redesigned models.

Never heard of them until your post. However, they look to be high-end products Lews.com.

15 years ago, they were the BEST baitcasters money could buy. Folks would pay serious dollars for the 90's and late 80's models.

Not too sure now, but they might still be pretty dang good.

Thinking about this from Cabela's. Looks like a pretty good deal. I have seen the reel by itself online for almost as much.

I couldn't get the link to attach. It is the Lew's spinning combo on the Cabela's website.

About 20 pr more years ago, Lew's were one of the best, as stated. For spinning, the Speed Spin was the one to get, not the Silver Spin. The models made in Japan were more coveted than the ones made in Korea. They also made rods and rod blanks. They made a pretty good graphite rod blank, very light and sensitive, but that came at the cost of durability.

Hope this helps.

I still fish with a Lews BB1N casting reel after over 20 years of service, cost over 100.00 dollars 20 years ago, best money I ever spent on a casting reel. The new reels are a new design and I do not know about their quality. In the 80s lews reels were made by shimano, in the 90s by Ryobi and Quantum/Zebco, they went out of buisness and were purchased and reintroduced by someone I am not familure with. Anthony

I just bought and used a Lews spinning rod and reel combo from Cabellas and it performed well until I broke the smooth coating inside the rod tip and then shaved a whole bunch of the line on the reel. After that I used it with a cheap rod I had with my extra setup. It was smooth, easy to cast and held up to the abuse of my portaging it without protection the first few dys until I learned my lesson.
