As a lightweight backup to my heavier dual fuel Coleman 533 stove, I purchased a Primus Classic Trail stove that runs on propane/butane cartridges. I tested it for the first time, and man it burns super hot, even on a low setting.

Wondering if I should be concerned if I use the Primus with my MSR nonstick aluminum pot. Almost seems like it could create a hot spot that may not be good for the this type of pot.

i have a small gaz burner as a back up,great for a quick water boil but if i use it to simmer i keep a eye on the pot shifting it around and stirring it more than using my Coleman Peak.this is another "try before you take" deal.cook up a can of soup for lunch tomorrow and see what happens.better than taking our word for it and having burned oatmeal first day out.

I have the same stove and use it a lot with the Outback Oven where you need a very low flame. It works fine. I have found that once you start it and set it at its lowest level, it seems to turn up by itself and you have to manually turn it back down a little but then it stays there.

You might want to get a scorch buster. It is a metal disk that fits on top of the stove that dissipates the flame. It prevents burning on the bottom of the pans.
