So I'm looking to buy a Wenonah Seneca and I've rented this boat several times before, but I've always been uncomfortable in the center seat. I was curious if anyone had any ideas on good ways to sit/kneel/etc. or if anyone had suggestions on what could be done to the canoe in order to make the seat more comfortable. I fully intend the center paddler to paddle, so I'm looking to consider all options pre-production in case people know of a good way to sit. Thanks!

Use a long kayak paddle in the center seat.
It is a big wide boat. For the center person to paddle with a canoe paddle they would need to get off center to be able to reach the water. A long kayak paddle would give them the reach while keeping them centered.

Have you had experience doing this? We had thought about doing this, but my only concern/thought was that you wouldn't be able to reach the water with the kayak paddle because of the height of the gunwales and the freeboard of the Seneca. Thanks for the response!

Bending Branches makes a kayak paddle that is longer for canoe use.
Piragis sells them. Just a longer yak paddle.
If I were in the middle I think I would be fishing,LOL.

They also had them at Midwest Mountaineering here in Mpls. 260cm and even 280cm if I recall...

The 280 cm model is normally for taller people. But for this application, it may be the way to go for average height folks. A seat pad to elevate the paddler a little might help too.

Yeah, we've actually looked at raising the center seat and moving it back a little bit as well, and we're going to canoecopia so I can look at the kayak paddles there. Has anyone actually tried this? It sounds like a good idea, but I'm skeptical by nature. Thanks again for all the responses.
