Does anybody use the bag their tent came in or do you buy something else to carry it in the bwca. Looking for ideas.

Thanks

We use the bag but this fits inside pack. Why other bag?

I use the ones that came with it.

When I use a tent I'll use separate bags for tent body and fly. Nice if you pack up wet also makes managing the pack easier. With my "Lean 1+" I use the stuff sack it came with.

I us a different bag. I made it out of thin nylon. Just big enough for the tent body and the fly, I pack the poles separate. It weighs less and is smaller in size then original. I still us the original for storage however.

Different Bags
I put the rainfly in one and the tent in another.
Two Reasons can tell the difference between the fly and the tent by the different color bag, and ussually the fly is wet and the tent isnt
Just me buttttt that is what I do

Depends on the how well the bag fits the tent. My Mountain Hardware Haven 3 bag is a nice snug fit with a foot print and some plastic in it. I use that one. The bags that came with my REI tents are a bit over-sized and I have tried using other sacks for those. Finding the right size is tricky.

SunCatcher might be on to something, two smaller bags can be packed more ways than one larger one.

The tent and fly in the bag it came it. The poles are usually strapped to the outside of my portage bag. I have to be extra careful on how I tie it on so not to lose poles.

packs....rectangular. stuff/compression bags...round. i pack the poles and tent seperately. they fill those front and rear "triangle spaces" well.

I roll my tent in my footprint. If you fold the tent body into thirds, shake and place the fly on top and roll the poles in the middle you get a nice, uniform mass. The bag it came with is large, but I still use it. I carry it on the top of a duluth pack or wannigan depending on my setup for the trip.

We always use the bag it came in whether we are taking a tent or Lean shelter. The only thing I do is pack the poles in a seperate Granite Gear pole bag and then pack the poles under the top flap of the canoe pack. Sven Saws also go in the pole bag. Tent goes in side the pack in its bag.
Poles are akward to pack inside any pack.

Tent, footprint, vestibule, fly have all been going in a compression bag lately - I'm liking it. Nice and neat, I pull that out first and the right thing is on the top, etc.

Alternative if base camping - do not use a sack. Pack near the top of pack on the way in, then if it's wet when you head out, just pack it on top of the plastic pack liner and you're good.

Poles always in their sack, strapped on side of pack - bottom in the little side pocket on the pack, rest lashed in via the compression straps on the side of pack. Perfect fit, who cares if they are wet?

I find that that some bags meant for sleeping bags, tents, etc. are sized so that a robot with a vacuum pump could repack the item, but not me. Like others have said, the fly is often wet on tents. I pack sleeping bags in larger size compression stuff sacks and for tents, I pack the tent and fly in separate bags. Poles are also separate.

The original bags fit perfectly. Never even considered anything else.

Thanks for the ideas. Was looking at trying something different this year, but I will keep using the bag it came in. I have an Eureka Tetragon 8 and I can roll it up about a foot shorter then the bag it came in and still fit it in the same bag.

i use the bag it came in for storage and if i am car camping or something similar. when backpacking or in the bw i put the tent/footprint/fly in a compression bag and the poles/stakes on the side of my bag.

i do like the idea of a seperate smaller compression bag for the fly, might have to look into that...

Stuff the tent and fly in a smaller GG stuff sack that fits into the flap of my CCS pack. Poles go in a GG pole sack and fit inside my pack along the back corner. One key is to never get a tent with poles longer than your pack is tall. I usually keep the stuff sacks the tent came in to store it in.

use the bag it came with. However, if the tent is wet when I pack I just stuff it in my pack on the outside of the liner - generally on top after the liner is rolled shut.

I use a camp chair bag.

very long and narrow, fits great in the front of my yak between my legs along with a camp mat, and on my last trip a camp chair.

speaking of which, I should go unpack it now to let it breathe a bit after my last trip.

I take two army surplus duffle bags with pack straps. I pack my Timberline loose in the bottom of one along with the fly and tarps. On top of that goes small bags with clothes and other stuff.

Just curious - why is the tent at the bottom? isn't it the first thing you need to set up camp? Truly curious, as I do the opposite in my pack. Does it have to do with the weight of it?

Original bag.

I don't get the bottom thing either. Tents and tarps are always on top and outside my liner when wet.
