Where do you get the nice BWCA size blue barrels? I see some retailers sell them, but it seems I should be able to find one somewhere.

Where are you at? They can be expensive to ship. Northwest Canoe has a deal right now that you get free shipping if you get a barrel and harness together.

NWC

you can get similar ones at US Plastics, but they are not as thick of material. us plastic

the 8 gallon is about 30L and the 15 gallon about 60L.

Midwest Mountaineering has them as well if you happen to be in the Twin Cities.

you can also search Ebay, I bought a 15gal off there pretty cheap. Be careful of what was in it previously though. I wouldn't want my food in something that used to carry toxic stuff.

No, just the harness. I think the cost of the barrels was listed just bellow ($88 for the 60L and $58 for the 30L if I remember right)

NWC also has some of the NEW Granite Gear barrel harness available. You wont see these until spring, but NWC has them. I have looked at them and am very impressed. IMO they rival Ostrums or Headstrong harness. Very padded and they strap over the top for added secuity from falling out of the harness.

Not affiliated just a happy customer!

We have a 30L and a 60L, use either or both depending on group size.
We even use them "car camping", for rodent control issues.

Cedarboy brought up a good point, I could use the barrel anytime camping. Probably would have thought of that eventually, but it gives me more ammo when trying to get the purchase permit from the warden.

Will either the 30 or 60 L fit in the Duluth Pack kitchen pack?

Sparetime,
Email me and I have a name of a woman in the Chicago area that was selling two sizes of used blue barrels. Even with shipping, they we're still very reasonable.

She had a lot of them last summer so she may still have some.
