Probably a new 3 person tent.

Hi, my name's Koda and I have a "stuff" addiction.

I've been telling myself for at least two years that I have everything I need. Every few months I prove myself wrong. With my snake boots tried and proven for portaging, a new (to me) Mad River Independence in the garage, and a Zeta 2 tent on the way, the next item will most likely be a Kawishiwi paddle from Sanborn Canoe Co. After that, with Canoecopia coming around in another 4 months, it's anyone's guess. Probably a wool t-shirt and warmer tights for sleeping and some nobendium tent stakes and ....

At 'copia a couple years ago my friend told me and my wife all the reasons a Bell MorningStar was just the right boat for us. We nodded and walked away ... he smiled ... we came back ... he talked some more ... we smiled and walked away ... he smiled ... we came back ... he talked some more ... we walked out with the damn thing.

If anyone sees me at 'copia, wild-eyed and burdened with too much stuff, please just go on by. If you try to help me I'll probably bite you.

I'm with Kanoes on this one. My priority item would be a ccs silnylon tarp -- just not sure what size yet.

11/14/2009 10:06PM
"warmer tights"?

A Snowtrekker tent,Crew Cab model, for the hardwater season.

11/14/2009 10:25PM
Yeah, warmer tights. My ballet outfit just doesn't cut it. (I wear lightweight cycling tights but could use something in a 100-200 weight Polarfleece.)

A Bell Magic. May as well go big.

Yeah. If it's a wish, I'm going big with Mr.B and wishing for a new Kevlar Canoe.

a SPOT or PLB..i have all the gear i will ever need in multiples.

11/15/2009 06:29PM
SOLO Canoe...Undecided for now, Currently own a Bell NorthStar.
May move the seats around and make it a Solo??? Otherwise if there was one piece of gear I am thinking it would be a new NEO AIR Big one,
I got the Large and it is a little narrow for a fat boy like me, So thinking 25" has to be better then 20" wide. Go, Go SANTA.

Any canoe lighter than the banana boat. A Minnesota II would be nice.

I WILL be buying a second CCS Pioneer pack.

I'd LIKE to buy a solo canoe.

11/16/2009 01:05PM
Anything...really?!!

I would get a lighter tandem canoe and the alumabeast could be retired!

In reality, a bigger and more comfortable backpack.

11/16/2009 06:02PM
already done...... used Souris River Quetico 18.5 in Le Tigre kevlar sitting in the garage waiting for spring

Ducks, You will love that canoe. It is the same one my brother has and I have used. I would like to get a Cammenga US Military Tritium Lensatic Compass to add to my compass collection.

I will probably be getting a 0 degree bag for sure, but if I could get anything, probably a canoe (bell magic) and a snow trekker tent.

11/17/2009 09:13AM
A nice new sleeping mat.

A Sling Light chair. My buddy had one on our trip and it was the one piece of gear the other 5 of us went, "man, I wish I had THAT," all week.

I need a new 4-person tent. Checking out options and hoping to pick one up "off season."

11/17/2009 06:30PM
While I am getting close on the Fischer maps, Iwould like a complete set of both Fischer and McKenzie maps...Along with a canoe.

11/17/2009 07:22PM
I would have to say a lighter canoe than my old town penobscot & a new pair of teva sandles. My current pair have traveled many miles & not much wear left on them.

11/17/2009 07:26PM
A hammock to replace my old thermarest and older Eureka tent.

Another tent. Always another tent. I am the proud owner of a Taj, but have six others ranging from cabin type car campers to a single that I can barely roll over in. But man is it light, and does it pack small. Always looking for a smaller packing, lighter tent.

An MSR Missing Link would be what I am looking at next.

a new canoe and ohhhhhh so many more things :)

A new paddle I liked the ones at the Duluth Pack in Cannel Park. But I figure I should get a new canoe first the old Grumman maybe to heavy for the boys to carry.

A new Yamaha 15 HP motor. The old one has paid its dues.

I would defer my desires, buy an ounce gold coin and sell it one-to-two years from now, using the proceeds to help me buy a two-man kevlar canoe.
I guess if I was really serious about that canoe I would just sell a couple of those coins I bought 30 years ago. As a practical matter though, I'm getting kind of old to be acquiring new, major equipment items.

Jeriatric- go ahead and buy that canoe- I'll take care of it after you're gone. :)

11/19/2009 01:22PM

Yes, ...but have you been good this year. Ha!

11/19/2009 04:45PM
I just bought a SnowTrekker tent, so my camping fund is pretty low. I do have some "boot bucks" saved up for this spring, but I may use that cash for a new tundra tarp IF I can find a deal at tomorrow's Midwest Expo.

Solo canoe. I'm actually trying to squirrel away money for one now. I'm thinking Bell, either a Merlin II or a Yellowstone. Tripped with the Merlin II this year and was happy with it. I like the Yellowstone for freestyle around home but don't know if it will track well enough to be a good tripper.

New lightweight wood bent canoe paddle. Broke mine: involves back hatch door of Xterra and too hurried of a shut by yours truly.

11/20/2009 06:33PM
"Exped Downmat 9", my insulated air core works from May to Sept., but barely.

11/20/2009 07:59PM
Merganser, if you get a Yellowstone Solo I expect you'll find its issues are more with stability (both initial and secondary) than tracking. In its stock configuration it's an awful freestyle boat, but it can be easily tweaked. Get back to me if you want to know more.

If I could only buy one new piece of gear this year I would go insane and then it wouldn't matter much which piece of gear I chose because I would already be nuts.

Ordered a pair of OTB Abyss water boots from Santa via Defender.com, where they are on sale for $79. I will give that 'intentional' wet-footing a try next year.

I would like a "PakCanoe 170 folding canoe",
but I have not put aside money for that, and the old glas fiber canoe has to do the job.

Merry Christmas
