i am looking for reviews on ccs day pack, bwaters journal day pack, others welcome as well.what do you carry, pros, and cons.i think a pack with different compartments would organize gear best.
presently i use a north face back pack but it is not a waterproof canoe pack. looking for new. thanks

with maybe a couple of exceptions, canoe packs are not waterproof by themselves.

kondos makes the bwj packs. that said, this is the one i use and i love it. big compartments, huge, heavy duty zippers, and a 5 gallon pail fits in the main compartment. i used to use this pack and a pail as my food pack before i went to the bear keg.

kondos sale!

I have a CCS rucksack that I use for a food pack on longer trips where I cannot get everything into one pack. It is of high quality like all CCS products. It is a simple pack with a foam sheet in a pocket against your back for comfort. It has a pocket in the flap but no side pockets to hang up in your boat. The Kondos / BWJ pack is a traditional guide pack design with two large side pockets. A very nice pack as well. I do not like side pockets in a canoe because they hang up going in and out, but they also provide more room and is easier to organize. Both products are of high quality and made in MN by paddlers.

kanoes uses the Kondos Guide pack...but Kondos also makes a Day Pack Same basic design, a little smaller. I have one of each. Good, tough, handy packs.

would the rucksack hold 2 rainsuits, lunch, 2 water bottles, fishing gear in somewhat of a orderly way? i was considering the rucksack.

and more than that! the rucksack would made for one HUGE daypack.

will the kondos guide pack hold same gear mentioned above nicely?

the main compartment of the kondos guide pack has almost the exact dimensions of your standard paper grocery bag (i just measured). you could use one of those for a test fit.

I am a big fan of Duluth Packs and use their number 51 utility pack as a day pack when I take an extra pack. I pack it light and carry it with the canoe. I like to use their thwart bag for my fishing stuff.

Another vote for the Kondos Guide Pack. It is a well made product.

I use a Kelty Redwing daypack. It is the perfect size for an olive barrel, which I use as a solo food container or the daily snack and lunch container on a group trip. It also has two side pockets that will hold a liter drink bottle and a back pocket for TP or whatever miscellaneous items. I would like to have a Duluth Pack Sparky Bag, but they are mighty proud of them and unless I can find one less than half price on Ebay it will never happen.

I picked up a Seattle Sports Aquanot daypack this summer at Midwest Mountaineering for $60. It is marketed at 1800 cu in. and waterproof. I haven't used it in the BWCA yet, but have used it hiking along the North Shore at Tettegouche this summer (got rained on and everything in the bag stayed dry). I'm thinking it's going to work great on canoing trips.
