I am reading a lot about trolling to catch fish in the BW. Does anyone have advice on what to use for rod holders while paddling. Obviously something light weight and easy to portage.

Thanks

Here a couple links to recent threads. Inside you will find links to the Rod Sentry, the more popular holder. LL Bean, Cabela's and Scotty's are other models available. You'll also find recommendations to forget the rod holder and just use your legs to hold the rod.

Hey there 2 trees-

Noticing your other post about portage clamps it looks like those big "twist ties" from Northern Tool might be able to be configured to solve both problems.

Read the threads posted above. You'll see the vast majority of people simply prop the rod with the butt on the floor of the canoe and the rod out the side of the canoe.

Put one foot in front of the butt to hold it in place and have the bottom eye of your rod just inside the gunwale you'll be able to troll for hours and hours with no problem.

Believe me - you'll try a rod holder and send it to the bottom of the lake the first day.

I found they worked fine but, like Mr Barley, I decided they really weren't worth the weight.
