First timer to BWCA and heard that if you leave your tent up during the day the doors should remain open so rodents don't make their own. Upon returning you should spray it with Raid and close it up so any bugs will take a dirt nap. Is this true?
Hmm, BWCA spell checker didn't recognize BWCA.

I've heard that too. I filed it under urban legend.

It is a good idea to keep your tent closed.

Mice get active at night but generally not a problem with clean equipment and camp.

Raid? I have never heard of anyone using that in the BWCA.
It sounds unhealthy to use in your sleeping area.

as long as you keep smells out of your tent you shouldn't have issues with rodents trying to get in. i have never heard of bringing or using raid. i try to keep chemicals away from tents.

no raid, keep the tent closed, never had a mouse bother the tent....it shouldn't smell like anything to eat, right?!!

We had an outfitter in the past recommend this same practice. We never did it, and have had no problems. In addition, we weren't too keen on bringing in a can of raid!

No way would I spray RAID on my tent nor would I bring it to a camp. I do keep the tent doors zipped pretty much all the time.

I would just keep the tent door closed, tent clean and you should not have any problems! I have not to this date anyway...

Thanks for the input. I heard that from an outfitter but since I am taking my own gear I would only consider if a last resort.
Clean, tidy and chemical free it is.

We had a coon get in our tent in the Chippewa national forest, but that was because my buddy left his bread in there. I woke up with a coon staring back at me and oh yeah it made its own door. Then when i swatted at it and it jumped on my buddy he woke up, jumped up and attempted to run through the tent wall, destroying my tent completely. It was a shitty tent though and worth the laughs and story so I didn't make him repay me.

What i like to do is enter the tent, close doors and rainfly, and then use the Raid. Lots of it. I always get some good sleep that way!!!

Rogerson that was funny, my motto is" better living though chemicals" but leave the Raid at home.

WD40 for FISHING? Just curious about how that works. What do you use it on.

you do not use the WD 40 for fishing you use it for making a torch with your handy bic lighter. Nothing more fun then playing with fire

I actually personally don't use it myself, but I have been fishing with a couple salmon guides who put it on lures in the belief that it left a trail or scent interesting to fish. There is a myth it is made from fish oil which is untrue.

Might want to get another outfitter!
