I'm going to try and make a barrel harness and I was wondering if anyone has tried this before. I got a great deal off the REI website a few weeks ago on some pack shoulder straps and pack waist belts that I thought I could make into a barrel harness ($.83 per ss or wb). Any ideas that could save me some time would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know of both the good and bad ideas you've had or tried.

Thanks

my barrels fit inside an army duffle bag with shoulder straps perfectly, that is what I use... However, it should not be too difficult to build one just sew your connections well!

I put my 30L barrel in a backpacking pack. Seems like it will work.

I think SUKO made a harness once for a blue barrel. Search for the thread. He had pictures.

I forked out for a Paragon soft packframe. It was for a big soft cooler. Me and the sewing awl made a rough looking job of it, so I wussed out.

This was made completely from scratch;

but it required the purchase of this for $1,700

I was gonna start producing them but several of lifes obstacles have taken my time. If you send me $20 to cover shipping, your address and promise to send me a written review, this one can be yours.
With a standard sewing machine you would break a lot of needles. The webbing I use and the Cordura are pretty tough material and in certain places you may need to go 4 to 6 layers deep. The “Experts” recommend using polyester thread in the 92 weight. It is resistant to sunlight. Minimum acceptable thread is nylon 69 weight. My machine is brand new, but if you look for a used upholstery machine that will sew through leather or six layers of webbing you would do alright.

That’s really nice suko! It looks to be of at least the quality of my NRS Paragon harness. Good luck when you start production. Looks like a winner. Also if you need some testing, I'll take you up on it.

I'm totally impressed, Suko. Have you tried it in the field, yet?

Not field tested. I need to find a better supplier for the buckles and ladderlocks, plus find time between school and work to do some sewing and testing.
