What Fish Finder do you recommend?

My dad was given a handheld depth and temperature finder for Christmas, but I want to bring a true fish finder for my BWCA canoe trips. I am looking for suggestions on what is out there. I'm considering weight, portability, effectiveness, usability, functionality, features, and then cost.
