My trusty boots have started to show significant signs of deterioration on my last BWCA trip and I need to replace them. I am looking for a mid- to high-cut boot that is light. Thanks, Kanot

LL Bean Field boots with four inch tops..the field boots have a waxed top rather than leather, lighter and more flexible.the rubber soles are very sticky and hold well on rock..drawbacks--they are waterproof so if you get a soaker you will have to empty the water out and they can get warm on really hot days but if i know i'll have just a few easy carrys i'll wear my in-camp sneaker that day--

I like Chotas Marsh boots worn with smartwool socks. Feet stay warm and dry. Some folks say there isn't enough support for portaging, but they work well for me.

Quetico Trekkers

Piragis has these available. Best design I've yet found.

Muck Boots Woody Max. Spendy, but feel better than my running shoes. Wouldn't do a trip without them.

I agree with thlipsis29 on the Muck Boots except I use the Wetland model, I have tried lots of different boots, but for BW and Q trips I would not leave home w/o them.

like beemer, i like the trekkers also...w/ brookies, for spring and fall trips.

i DONT like the trekkers as stand alone hiking boots.

I've seen Chota Breathable Mukluk Boots being worn by some in canoe country. Anyone have experience with them?

I use White's packs in the spring and fall. I do like mucks a lot. They make sense and are very light and comfortable.

Hey thanks for all of the recommendations. This narrows down the search considerably for me. This list is a great resource!

For early spring and late fall I use my Chota Mukluk II's. they are great and very warm.

In better weather I have a pair of Military spec jungle boots with the drain holes. With these boots I go for the "embrace" the water method and just get them wet. they dry out quick in the sun or by the fire. and they are cheap.

Another vote for Whites. I love my 10" Packers, and am able to keep my feet dry at the portages, even though I step into the lake all the time. Yes, they are pricey, but totally worth every penny you pay for them. I have about 2 months in the BWCA on this pair, and hundreds of miles hiking in the mountains, and they are getting perfectly broken in, and should be good for years to come.

Irish Setter 17" Winshooters are good and light for their size. Gortex and snakeproof too. Sportsmans Guide did have some leftover models on clearance. Order wide and 1/2 size long imo.

I've been real happy with my Irish Setters.

Keen Voyager

I've tried MANY different boots/shoes for BW travel. These are the best. Very comfortable. Drain well. Good traction. Good support. Very comfortable in the canoe...crossing legs, semi-kneeling.

I LOVE not having to worry about how deep of water I'm stepping, walking, or sloshing through.
