Was wondering if anyone fishes the Pike River in the area of 12 Foot Falls State Park? We had a cabin on the river years ago. Caught some really nice Browns and Brookies from 12 Foot falls down to where the Pike crosses Lilly Lake road. My dad told me several years ago the DNR shocked the river and took all the Browns out and planted it with all Brook trout. He said it ruined fishing. Has it got any better?
Just a couple things... 12 Foot Falls is a county park, not a state park. Just clarifying.
As for shocking and removing all the Brown trout, I find that very hard to believe. I would think getting them all would be next to impossible and why would they do it in the first place?

According to my dad, the DNR is trying to turn that section of the Pike back to a wild river status. As property went up for sale along the river DNR bought it. The three pieces of property next to ours was bought by the DNR. They removed all the cabins and the property went back to wildland. To my knowledge this started happening I guess 25 years ago.
At some point they shocked the portion of the Pike our cabin was on. My dad, who passed five years ago, watched the crew as they worked their way passed our place, so it did happen. Took all the Browns they could and replanted with Brookies.
The last time I fished the stretch from 12 foot falls to Lily Lake road, I guess 5 or 6 years ago, fishing was not good at all.
