I will be heading up the 1st of October for a few days, the plan is to Base on Fourtown and focus on fishing. Just looking for any recommendations as far as fishing any of the lakes in the area. Which lakes you've had success on and things like that, lakes that would be worth a day trip.
Also, how about leeches that time of year?

I'm heading up that way the 3rd week in September. Our outfitter said that leeches are still a good choice and are easy to keep alive. He told us that Minnows are probably the best live bait in Sept. and Oct. but with the warm water are difficult to keep alive. He said that many are having great luck with Gulp baits about now. We plan on grabbing leeches. If you go through Superior on the way up, stop and the Bait Box on 53. They have leeches in bulk and prices that have always been reasonable.

We have had some good success with walleye on both Fourtown and Horse. On Fourtown, try the peninsulas along the west side of the southern section, especially the one directly west of site 1109. Get out and stretch your legs at the old logging camp behind site 1110 if it is open, and sit behind the wheel of the truck or stretch out on the bedsprings. On Horse, pretty much the entire east shore is fair game, including a nice hump between the river source and the north island.

Walleyes and SMB will be heading to deep water. Think of it as highways....travel corredors to the deep basin. The narrows betwwen islands are perfect "highways" to the basins. Drift between the islands...choose the ones with a good windflow...current flow. If you are a bait guy, drift just off bottom thru the narrows, if you are trolling lures tick bottom every little bit(hot-n-tot, shad rap, wally diver). You will end up drift-trolling 12-16ft. Usually the schools of fish will be as the narrows opens up, just beyond the island as the water drops off to deeper water. When you get a fish, go back 30ft. and drop an anchor and fan cast...WHACK and STACK'EM!!!! Pike will be on the outer edges of decaying weeds, throw BIG lures(spinnerbaits, cranks, swimbaits).
