Does anyone have any fishing information on these two lakes? I'm mostly interested in chasing walleyes or panfish. How about preferred campsites on these lakes?

I'm thinking about a solo through this area in late summer and would appreciate any information. Thank you!

If your looking for walleyes, Alder is the choice in that area, unless you want to head up to Pine. Canoe is a bad choice for walleyes and Crystal is not much better.

Ditto on Alder. Prime for Northerns, Walleye and Smallmouth.

Thanks a bunch for the info bassmaster & arctic.

I heard this area is very nice so perhaps I'll go and just concentrate my fishing to Alder.

I would check out the MN DNR Lake Finder and look up the lakes like this: canoe lake (shows the species etc... some surveys newer than others. Crystal lake info (the page you get after looking up a lake). They provide maps of the lakes too, incase you dont get info on a fisher or mckenzie map. Sometimes dnr map has more contour lines too.

You can also look for info on campsites, fishing hot spots, portage info and pictures etc... that people post information about. Here is a link to the topo map in your area. click on the campsite dots, somtimes people will post ratings etc... on them (not all sites have info tho). Also the search function for this site (bottom left above feedback link)is a good tool for finding older threads that talk about stuff along the lines of your search.

Canoe Dude, that MN DNR Lake site is wonderful. Thanks!

The lake maps with depths will come in handy on any trip as it appears they have more detail than the McKenzie map I'm comparing to now. The fish info is great too.
