I am an experienced fisherman that is from central Wisconsin. I am wondering what is worth fishing for in the boundary waters during the last week of August? Any comments are appreciated. Thanks!
It all depends on what is worthy to you. I catch smallies, walleyes, pike, and an occasional largemouth up north in late August. As for the Lakers, I hear they are deep but many people here still land them in late August also.
The smallies will feed just before heading back to the depths for winter, and with them in the 10-15 ft waters the big pike will also feast before the waters cool down.
Just bring a pole and a good attitude and you're sure to be successful.

I was up in the BWCA in early September last year and the smallies and pike were active. We were fishing in Crooked Lake and the smallies were on every shore. We used leeches on jigs and were pretty successful. We were targeting walleye but only seemed to catch walleye trolling off deep points in 18 to 30 ft water. Walleye seemed to be scattered at that point in the year.
