Well it's the end of march, Mississippi river is 35 degrees. I'd say this is 2-3 weeks. Late we should be in the mid 40's by now.ice been gone for most of the month now. Just lots of cold water coming down. Gona hit the Hampton dam later in the afternoon. Usually catch my first wally the first week in march. Im late because of left shoulder surgery. But. Ive heard I havnt missed a lot. 40's and 50's this week. Stay tuned

I caught my first pool 4 Walleye on Saturday. I think the Rainy River pre-spawn bite and fishing opener on the lakes here in norther MN are going to be a bust this year.

Arlo, how do you think I'll do, water temp-wise and fish activity-wise up around Lake of the Woods beginning on June 1st? I'll want to catch mostly bass.

That should be good for a pre-spawn bite. You might have to fish transition/staging areas between wintering holes and spawning areas. Suspending jerk baits might be in order if they are tight lipped. Try starting shallow but you may have to probe the 5-15' depths. You'll figure it out!

Do you think they'll hit a leech? Also, do you think the water will be so cold that leeches will curl?
