I just got a two piece Cabela Predator from my father in law. The two pieces do not connect flush with each other... I called him and asked him about it and he said that it wasn't supposed to connect flush, just snug. He said he has a bunch of Rods like that. Is this true? I can't imagine he would lie to me, but at the same time, all my other two piece Rods connect flush... ??? Can you please help me? Thanks!!

Just a guess here, but he may have multiple rods of the same model but of different actions. It is easy to accidently put a different top section on the wrong rod butt. I have did it before myself. Sometimes I have fished a day or two before I noticed.

As a rod builder. This is a feral and spigot connection that allows for some wear and will not fit flush. Many high end fly rods are built this way to ensure proper spine and feral fit. Once this type of connection fits flush it is too loose and will require a qualified rod builder to repair. I am sure it is fine. Just put some feral wax (or candle wax if you have none.)on it, get it snug and go fishing. I am confident you will have no issues.

Learn something new all the time, I didnt realize this was why two piece rods didnt fit flush I just figured as long as it was a snug fit it was fine.P.S. and thank you for the good information.
