I was checking out North Lake and was impressed with the data but I was curious why nobody on here ever mentions it ? Is it difficult to get into or a really rough lake in the wind ? We have a route already planned for this year but in the future I would consider going there , any info good or bad would be helpful .Susana lake and Francis bay looked interesting too. Thanks !

I love North Lake. It does get fished quit a bit though. You can get a boat in there unless the water is really low. Since most of the lake is in Canada, without a RABC permit and Canadian license a person is very restricted as to where they can fish.

Thanks for the info Walleye_Hunter . I may have to check it out one of these years , it looks like a nice trip from Gunflint around the horn with the wind at your back and come out through Rose and Duncan .

Always wanted to go around the north end of this lake, but always put it off due to the unknown of how much boat traffic on the U.S. side and also the Canada side. That would be a nice loop to do the north end of North lake. It is a long wide open lake so it could also get windy. I have heard the lake is really nice looking. I walked from south lake to north lake, but did not portage over.

walleye_hunter is right very restricted fishing unless you get a Canadian license.

We base camped on Duncan last year and went up into Arrow Lake from Rose Lake. Suppose to be good eye fishing there but when we talked to the locals they said it had been good for a short while in the spring and had all but disappeared by June.
Rose Lake was absolutely gorgeous. Fun catching the smallies at the bottom of the falls.

We got the remote permit by mail and the fishing license and outdoor card by phone - pretty easy:

Remote Area Border Crossing Permit
Outdoors Card and Fishing License info
