Hi everyone,

First time poster with a question about fishing reports around the Washington & Lincoln Islands on the east side of Basswood during early Oct.

We will going in soon, and are looking forward to the fall colors, cooler weather with fewer bugs and maybe some good fishing, We usually troll around with crankbaits until we find fish, but Washington & Lincoln islands on the east side of Basswood Lake is unfamiliar territory.

Would a hungry Canadian walleye swim south during the fall pre- turnover if food was available? How far would a school of fish migrate upstream if it is closer to their spring spawning area, and what baitfish would attract them at what depths?

Thanks in advance for any advice on trying to find mobile fish on a big lake during seasonal changes; and campsites close to where fish are likely to stack up.

I've decided to leave the Sorels at home and bring sunscreen and bug juice this year!

Ray

I was just up there last weekend. for the most part our fishing was pretty unsuccessful, but we didn't try real hard either. I would bet that the fall colors are going to be past peak when you go because it was really colorful when we were there. There is a single campsite on a small island south of Washington Island that looked nice when we paddle by. There are 3 campsites on the south shore of Washington Island. I believe the eastern most one is the site with the nice sand beach. We stayed on the NW corner of Washington Island, the site right at the motor line.

Was pretty quiet up there. Just some duck hunters. Only had 1 guy paddle past our site in 4 days.

Also, bring your shotgun. There were grouse running around the campsite. AND welcome to BWCA.com
