Birch Lake, 9/30 approx 1:30PM. Daughter tells me she just broke the last 15" off her 6ft. fishing rod. Yells at me for not bring a 3rd fishing rod like I usually do.

Then I tell her "sorry, I forgot to take the landing net with". She says "oh hell, I'll just fish with it anyway".

Minutes later she has a fish on. She tried to get it close to me in the 18' canoe but this fish was not going to have it. Then the 8 lbs. test line breaks. We both saw a nice size fish in the water, GONE.

She puts on another green whistler with leech but with a 25lbs. 18" leader this time fishing in the same area. Darn if she doesn't have a fish on again! It was crazy. She has never caught a sizable fish before and I was being a bad "grab the leader and get it in the canoe" screaming coach. (3 yrs. ago in Quetico, I forgot the net and she lost a nice Northern cuz I grabbed the line not the short leader.)

Finally, in was in the canoe. (Now she might me forgive for Canada trip Northern cuz this one IS BIGGER!). OH MY, the girth of this fish was huge! She tries to take pix of the fish and notices it has her lost lure sticking out from the other side of it's mouth!!! SHE CAUGHT THE SAME FISH!! It was her dream to catch a big Northern Pike - fulfill - approx. 12 lbs.

Good for her! Sounds exciting. Those pike are foolhardy. They'll hit and hit again.

Great fishing story Talc. Just goes to prove, where there's a will there's a way. Never say die. Congrats to the daughter. She must have been thrilled.

You will remember that for the rest of your life, and so will she. Very, very cool.

Outstanding story! A good chuckle. Did you get a picture off it with both lures hanging out of its mouth?

Something similar happened to me in the Quetico a few years back. Iwas fishing a shoreline with a popper and a pike bit me off. As I was cussing out the fish my bother kept casting the shoreline. A couple casts and he gets a fish on.
