I am going to try the numbered lakes the last week of May. Not my first choice for the BWCA, but I thought I would give them a try since I'll be in the area.
I plan to troll from Lake Two to Three. I'm headed for Horseshoe and then Wilder. Does that sound like a good plan, or a waste of time? Is their any tributaries coming in or out worth checking out on the way? Any tips would be appreciated. Also any tips on Horse shoe and Wilder area. Thanks
Less than 6 weeks, I can't sleep at nights...

I think trolling as you go is a splendid plan - hug the shore and you'll certain have success. I'd use a Gold and Black traditional floating Rap... with a 6" leader. You'll harvest some Bass and Northerns. If you want more bass you'll have to work shallower water and pull them off their nests. The leader is for the Northerns, not the bass.

I am going to the #'d lakes around that same time. What is your entry date. Also, does anyone have recomendations for a good loop starting at lake one and going out for 7-8 days and getting back to somewhere within hiking distance of the lot at lake one?

Beemer thanks for the advice. Kinda what I had in mind, just not sure of the fishing. I usually drag some poor lure behind me wherever I paddle! Mostly because I love surprises. I caught a real nice Laker acouple of years ago on the South arm of Knife Lake while dragging a spoon, looking for a camp spot.
Hey speaking of leader, I found some stainless at Wally world. I can't remember the name, but it is black, very SMALL diameter, about like 12-14 lb XL,ballbearing swivel. It is a lot thinner than the standard pre made leader, and I think it was around 20-30 lb. test. If anyone is interested I find out all the info. Looks promising.

I'm goiung to the area about a month after you. here is a thread I started on the area 2 months back. It is supposed to be dececnt Bluegail fishing, also good walleye. Pike and smallmouth should be about normal given those numbers.

It has been several years since I last traveled through the #chain, but have done very well fishing in the area. Trolling is the best way to located where the fish are holding. We usually troll or drift spinner rigs tipped with a live leech or a gulp leech. It has been very reliable for us over the years. Lake Three is where I caught my largest walleye to date (32 inches. Have fun!!!
