Ever tried to break 20# braided line in a canoe? I would stick with the 6 & 12.

8# Trilene XL or XT is all you need.

That spiderwire is great stuff. Experiment with a mono or floro leader to see if the fish are line shy, many do consider it much more visible to the fish. If you need to break it off like GSP says, get right on top of your snag and wrap the line around something first, like the butt of your rod, then pull straight up. That said I switched to 10# fireline this year, the jury's almost in and it isn't looking good for the competition.

I prefer fireline, but I think that spider wire is of the same sort. For me I find that braids are superior to mono.

No stretch = better hooksets and you can feel so much more through the rod. I had to set and catch a lake trout on a friends rod with mono last trip and I couldn't even feel if I was setting it and could hardly tell what the fish was doing. It felt like I had something on the end of a rubber band. I like to have a solid hook set and feel just what my lure/jig is doing.

Way thinner = heavier line that is thinner than any mono. I like that I can use a 10 lb test that is thinner than 6 lb mono. Gives you a little heavier line, while being harder to detect by fish.

Hard to break = Great in a fishing line, I can't believe someone would use this as a detractant. I dont like losing fish and prefer a line that doesn't break every time it touches a rock or tooth. I've bent the hooks on some of my crankbaits pulling them off snags. Saving me money and catching me more fish by haveing way fewer break/bite offs.

And if I ever do come across fish that will only bite on mono, I can always tie on a floro leader. I've fished alot with 2 paddaling partners who swear by mono and our fish catching rate is always very similar. I havn't ever seen mono out fish fireline.
