Going to be doing some camping and fishing on Basswood's Ranger Bay next year. Can someone suggest a good campspot and maybe some decent areas to fish. Going to be up there late May\early June time frame. You can email me if you don't want to post any fishing areas. I can be reached at queticomike@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

I guess no one on this board has ever fished in Ranger Bay of Basswood, I guess maybe that is a good thing. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Mike Ive fished a few of the bays on basswood but not that one. If the structure is anything like jackfish bay however, a fish is a fish and at that time i would start from the shoreline out to about 8 feet max for everything. If you can find sheltered areas especially with downed trees you will kill the smallies, and the walleyes will be shallow also.If your catching smallies just go out deeper and should find walleyes. Now lures well you will get alot of different opinions on those, but in the end i would have some leeches just in case.

No live bait allowed. Pinched barbs. QM gave you an answer to your post in the Quetico section.

Dude - I'd love to help you but haven't fished that bay. Have fished Pipestone, Jackfish, Back and Hoist Bays. Pipestone and Jackfish were loaded with Smallies, northerns and walleyes were a little harder to find. Back and Hoist contain very large northerns and good pockets of smallies and sunfish. Back is too shallow for walleyes. But, it's all the same water - you just have to know how to read a lake - and, oh...a depth map and/or fish finder helps.

QueticoMike,
Your best time to fish Ranger Bay will most likely be mid June for walleyes.
Shoot me an e mail, give me a call(218-365-4744) or stop by the shop if you are ever in Ely before leaving on your trip.
You won't be able to use the exact methods I used since Canada has banned live bait in the park, but I'm sure we can work something out.
I'm usually at the shop from around 11 am-2 pm daily, longer hours after we re-open for ice fishing which will be later next week.

Fish the entrance to lost bay on the ranger bay side. Never not had good luck there. Just have to figure out where the fish are depth wise around the opening to lost.
