A pal from Canada and I are heading into Wood Lake as our entry point for 4 days the 3rd week of September. Our plan is to fish, fish, and then do some more fishing. With 4 days, should we:
a) set up on Wood and focus locally?
b) set up on Wood and day trip to other lakes?
c) don't set up on Wood at all, and go elsewhere?
We're looking for Walleyes and Bass. Any comments/suggestions would be much, much appreciated, as would local knowledge of where to look for our species of choice on recommended lakes (depths this time of year, etc...).
Fish are starting to go a bit deeper already, as the water temp is about 64 degrees.
With the weather forecast, the lakes could have a 60 degree or less surface temp by the weekend.
I caught bass and northern in 20-30 FOW tonight, with many bass and sunfish spotted in 23 feet with a camera.
They're not very aggressive, so hang either minnows, crawlers, or leeches over the side of the boat on a small jig or plain hook, about 2-3 feet off the bottom.
They will hit the bait without much movement of the hook.
