Champion makes a selection of compact rods called Moby Sticks. From reading other threads it seems most aren't crazy about telescoping rods. Anyone had any experience with these? Moby Stick

No experience with them, but they look a grade or three above the Guide Series collapsible I bought at Gander Mountain. Are these available at a retail outlet near the twin cities?

Only saw them online. They seem better quality than the few I've seen in stores. Looked at one of Gander's and the tip broke off in my hand. Probably better off to buy a Barbie fishing pole.

question. what difference does a 3 foot rod (two pieces) make over a extendable rod thats 1.5 feet? i just dont see the advantage.

Either do I but my other half doesn't want to 'haul' a pvc rod protector. He broke the tip off last year on the 2 piece and seems to think telescope is the answer. I say let him learn!!

I've only seen the tubular type cloth ones at Gander. Well I will just make him read these posts for himself and perhaps the stubborn German will see the light. Not much time to order a telescope one as we are going in soon. Time to bite the bullet.

I always bring a rod tube. I got it from Cabelas probably 15 years ago. It usually carries five rods on BW trips, but could probably take a sixth. Indestructible. I don't want to even think about worrying about breaking a rod on travel days.

never used a tube, and never broken a rod.
Now that I have said that I will break one on the next trip.

Just be careful and use common sense with the rods. dont leave them on the ground, and watch out when near trees.
