I like Wally (and smally) fishing near current (especially since I usually trip around late May). My night fishing is mostly a bit later and on a reef or point or in front of camp.
A few years ago (just a couple weeks after a late ice-out) I was day fishing off a dock near town beside a road/drain culvert with a small flow. Had good luck there on small eater wallies.
I always wondered had I returned after dark how it would have been. Maybe better size? It was our last night at the resort and have not been back to try it.
Current in late Spring has been worth it for me,.......but what about current and trickle outlets at night? I know there's one way to find out; it is just that when I think, "night bite", I imagine in boat over a reef or island near deep water or sitting at camp. Just curious.

I like the night bite. I fish on the Mississippi river.
Many times I'm just getting there at dark when every one is leaving.
Usually fish til about 10.
Can't really tell if the fish are bigger.
I do know there are more...
When they get shallow and move up on the rocks, it gets fun.
Hard Fishin g in the dark.
Quality head lamp is a must.

The best laid plans of mice and men.......I keep telling myself I'm going to do some night trolling out of my canoe starting at midnight and always wimp out.

I usually fish until an hour after dark and pay the price with skeets but I can't help but think I quit right when the fishing is just getting started. I have read many times that fish need at least an hour or two after dark to get acclimated.

I used to like setting up some Coleman lanterns off the side of a tin boat and drop down minnows for crappie......anybody else do that? Rather fun.

We usually stay til midnight or better; that is in a boat and mostly on a mid-lake reef throwing husky jerks, F 11, rouges, etc. Erie,Shagawa, Cumberland. On a BW trip it is mostly shore in front of camp. And yes, in OH and KY we use a submersible green lite clipped to boat battery. It brings in baitfish then crappie and other species.
Light current at night with crawlers is my plan. Guess I'll test my luck.
