PFDs can wear out.

It says 5 years or 300 uses. I'm way over my date. It still keeps me floating last time I checked. Mine is at about 12 years and going strong.

Same here. Mine is over 15 years old. Maybe I'll check it in the tub and see if the water drains. Too cold to put it on and jump in right now. ;)

Good article. It's something I don't think about. My pfd's are anywhere from 25 to 2 years old. Guess I'd better check them.

I think some people got a old favorite PFD that they got broke in,but never checked it if it still does its job.

Boy, this thread had me wondering. So I tossed mine on and jumped in my lake. Whew, I didn't sink. Hope it still works when the ice is gone.
